Goldendoodles are one of the most popular “Designer Dog” breeds today. They are a crossbreed between a Poodle and a Golden Retriever. They come in three sizes; miniature, medium and standard, depending upon the size of the parents. The coat can be either wavy or curly and generally hypoallergenic and non-shedding (but not always). The Goldendoodles can come in a variety of colors including gold, red, apricot, white, chocolate, fawn, blue or parti-colored.

The Goldendoodle is a healthy, sweet, loving, playful, eager to please, gentle, affectionate, loyal, family-friendly and intelligent dog. They are typically friendly with strangers, other animals and children with proper training and socialization. They are easily trained due to their high intelligence. They need regular exercise and play and to be mentally challenged. Though they enjoy playing, being active and curious, this breed can also be the ultimate couch potato. Goldendooles have been known to be good therapy dogs as they are so smart and intuitive.

There has been much criticism regarding producing crossbreeds with lots of inherited illnesses. With responsible breeding and health testing this can be minimized and the health of the doodle can be strong due to the health benefits of each breed.

Goldendoodles do require frequent/regular grooming and brushing to avoid matting. Proper nutrition, vaccinations and regular health checks with a qualified veterinarian is a must for any dog.

Because both breeds, poodle and golden retriever, are hunting dogs, they LOVE the water. Our Goldendoodle swims every day in the pond, running in the fields and woods, and as such requires more gooming than another dog that doesn’t like the mud as much as our dogs do.
